I think my favorite ones were tie-on Pinocchio noses, Unicorn horns and ear candles! Something to think about? Maybe I can integrate some of them in to my work!

New Generation of Seagrove Potters

I hope to see some of you tonight at the North Carolina Pottery Center for the opening of a show I am in "New Generation of Seagrove Potters", The Seagrove area has a long and rich history of pottery and this exhibit highlights the younger potters who have made a career working in clay.
There are fifteen participating potters in this exhibit:
Blaine Avery, Stephanie Martin, Chad Brown, Eck McCanless, Jeff Dean, Will McCanless, Samantha Henneke, Tommy Nichols, Daniel Johnston, Travis Owens, Crystal King, Hitomi Shibata, Matthew Luck, Takuro Shibata, Jared Zehmer

The reception is this Friday, Feb. 12th at 5:30 pm. The show will be up from February 12th through April 10th, 2010 and all works are for sale beginning today!

We Take Our Snow Very Serious!

Yep down here in the south snows a big deal!! Yes we take it very seriously, yes we do! About as serious as collage basketball and BBQ. I mean it dosn't happen very often and when it dose the whole world stops, its kind of nice gives you some time to slow down and enjoy. The funniest thing though, all grocers stores sell out of bread, milk, and eggs. No one knows were all the stuff goes and why we all need so much when were only ever stuck at home a few days because the snow just melts buy then. We are in the south you know! There are lots of theories, jokes and ideas why this phenomenon happens but I liked Tracey Broome theory "Milk Sandwiches" the best so far. But it doesn't explain the eggs! Its only a theory and in the end were all just guessing I do know this only hapens in the south. People in other region on the country never understand the mad rush and think its funny the hear that the TV news crews actual do a live feed from the grocery stores during bad weather days.
Anyway enough about that. I had a great few days, Judson and I went sled ridding and in between the fun I did get some work done in the studio. My mom was here visiting for a few days sowed in with us and Judson got a snow day or "a day off" as he calls it on monday. I made quite a few pots and am feeling good about were I am in this working cycle. Im making some time for new ideas, this time of year is great for that you know!

So I hope you had a great Sow Day or two and if you would let me know what y'all do with all the bread, milk, and eggs!!

30 Pound Platter

I love making Platters this is the largest size I make, wet they are made out of 30 pounds of clay and are 24 inches wide and about 4 inches deep. I make them so when they shrink they will fit on a 24 inch kiln shelf. I wish I cloud make them bigger but that would mean a bigger shelf and then a bigger kiln, some day....... They are made to hang on the wall or outside. The front of my shop is covered with them one day maybe the whole building will see...... I'll be making some more in smaller sizes too these will be painted with imagery and fired in the salt glazing kiln with more pots, some turtles and other animals I'm working on. Oh and today I had the doors hanging wide open!! It hit 68 degrees today saw some flies and mosquito crazy!!!!

Looking Up In 2010

The sky was beautiful to day. We all get a little distracted in our busy lives and sometimes its hard to remember to slow down and enjoy the little things as the days goes buzzing by. You know its always right there up above ever present like so many things in our life that we seem to forget or glaze over in our day to day race. I've been thinking about this a lot lately with things going on in my life and have been making a point to clear my head, slow down and enjoy all life has to offer.
So I'm starting out the new year in the right frame of mind..... With new Ideas swirling through my head. I'm excited about what's next! Some things in the mix........ new designs for tiles, new glazes, a new clay body I've been working on and some fresh imagery on pots. But as I do all this I plan to take the time to take a deep breath clear my head and look up...........
