Here is a preview of some the pots I'll have this weekend, Saturday and Sunday, 18th  & April 19th. There is so much more to see and will it will all be out first thing Saturday morning.

The last post was of pots as they were decorated and being loaded in the kiln, here are some of the same pots finished after the firing! The opening went really well I had a amazing turnout as well as sales, thanks so much to all that made it out! 

As the kiln opening continues this weekend, if you haven't had a chance to make it out I still have great selection of pots in the showroom this weekend.

A little more..

Here's a few more pictures of some painting I did today. These are new imagery for me, been thinking about them for quite a while. It takes me some time for my ideas to transition from a thought to completion. There seems to be some time needed for processing and visualizing until Im ready to take the leap and let and my thoughts and ideas become real. Its kind of hard to put to words but I know it just wont come out right if I try to force it before the concept is ready to become a reality. I'm working with some porcelain at the moment just made a few pots out of it so far, anxious to see how it looks in the salt kiln.
I didn't get much done in the studio today i had a sick little to tend to . Took him to the doctor this morning and the good news is its nothing serious just a bad cold. Hoping I can get a litttle more done in the studio tomorrow..... will see, thats the way it is being single dad.

Sliped and ready to go!!

Lots of coffee today!! Long night last night finishing up things in the studio up until after 1:00am.
It's nice though when it gets dark out and quiet you start to hear sounds that you don't usually notice and when I'm focused on the rhythm of work your mind starts to wander in an almost meditative state. Some how its relaxing through all the chaos of a messy studio and pressure of the deadline. Your eyes on the end visualizing how all the pots will look fresh from the kiln hoping everything will live up to the picture that you built up in your head over the past several weeks. There's a lot of hart and sole that goes into what a potter dose, I hope people can see it in my work and connect with it on some level. you cant dictate what they will take away or see. You can only hope that feel the presence and relate to you and "it" in some way.
I got all the bowls sliped and there fast drying. Trimming some more bowls today that will be and unglazedand painted with black slip patterns and imagery animal effigies and such I love using that word "effigy" that one of those words that just fun to try to slip in a conversation, try it some time fun party game!! I may have to skip bisque firing on them to get them in the kiln for next weekend. I would rather have bisqued pots but I'm down to the wire!!
Also throwing a few mini bows to day.. crazy I know it's hard to stop and get out on the "making" mode.

You got to get your turtles in a row......

I got judson to bed early so I went back down to the studio to finish off the very last turtle. And it"s a Big one!!! He is the largest alligator snapping turtle on the slab roller. The three on the slab roller are some of the biggest ones I have ever made they stand about 20-24 inches tall and over 36 inches wide!!! Wow!! They took about 100 pounds of clay to make each they were a bear to make and flip over, there al made upside down and then turned over when there dry enough. There is another picture of the smaller ones I'll have for the opening on the 10th and 11th I'm hoping to fit two of the big ones in the kiln one is for a collector thats been waiting a long time, the other is for the opening and the third is my back up!! Hope they all make it though when they get this big you never know... I love to see them all lined up I call them a flock of turtles!

Annual Fall Kiln Opening-mark your calendars!

This year Blaine Avery will be featuring salt glazed turtles and hand built animals. There will also be a large selection of new hand painted pots from the salt kiln so expect the unexpected. Blaine hasn't made his very popular turtles in some time and is working on some new creatures, so plan to get first glimpse of the new creations before they are gone.
